Data sources

Updated 7 October 2026

Where every figure you see on evrouteplan comes from, on what terms we use it and what we do when it is missing. The rule is simple: anything not verified is shown as “n/a”; it is not filled in with estimates.

Cars

The catalogue has 141 versions of electric cars sold in Europe.

  • evkx.net. The source for 34 versions checked one by one: gross and usable battery, maximum DC charging power, motor power and weight; the measured charging curves of 15 versions; and constant-speed consumption measurements for one model. We are integrating its partner API to extend the catalogue.
  • EV Database. For the other 107 versions, the data-sheet figures: WLTP range, usable battery, maximum charging power, weight and acceleration. For these versions we have no verified gross battery or motor power, which is why they show “n/a”.
  • When a version has no measured charging curve, the simulator uses a generic reference curve and says so on screen: the charging time it gives is the best case, not a figure for that car.

Charging points

  • Open Charge Map. The open, community-built database of charging points: location, operator, connectors and power. Data © Open Charge Map contributors (CC BY 4.0). If a point does not publish its power, the simulator works out the best case and says so.
  • Google Places. How many connectors are free or in use, only when Google publishes that for the point.

Maps, routes and elevation

  • Google Maps Platform. The map, the route calculation, address and place search, and the elevation profile of the route, used to work out the climbs and descents.

Weather

  • Open-Meteo. The wind and temperature forecast along the route, at the time you pass each point, from the ECMWF IFS model. Weather data by Open-Meteo.com (CC BY 4.0).

What evrouteplan calculates

With that data, the simulator works out consumption by speed (with measured figures where they exist and a general table otherwise), temperature (heating or air conditioning and air density), wind, hills and charging time from the curve. These are our own models and we explain their assumptions in the guides, for example in real range vs WLTP. The cost calculator starts from example prices you can replace with your own.

Spotted a wrong figure?

Write to info@evrouteplan.com with the car or the charging point and we will check it. If the figure comes from one of these sources, you can also correct it there: Open Charge Map, for example, is maintained by its community.
